Exposure of Unerupted Teeth
This refers to the uncovering of teeth that have not moved into the mouth when they should. This is usually done in conjunction with orthodontic therapy. The critical part of this procedure, especially when the teeth are positioned on the cheek side of the jaw, is to end up with the proper type of gum tissue around the erupting tooth. This enables the tooth movement to proceed more expeditiously. Periodontal plastic surgical procedures are designed to accomplish this. Preventing problems from developing is the best way of maintaining a healthy and esthetic environment.
