Meet Khin Mimi San, DDS MS
Dr. Khin MiMi San has a diverse educational and cultural background. She completed her high school education in Singapore, where she did the Singapore-Cambridge GCE “O” and “A” Level examinations. Originally from South Africa, she returned to South Africa in 2006 and pursued a Bachelor in Dentistry and completed it at the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2011.
After her graduation, Dr. San provided community service as a dentist at a rural hospital in Mpumalanga, South Africa. During this period, she was made aware of disparities in healthcare which required more specialized skills and training. She returned to her alma mater and completed a post-graduate Diploma in Oral Surgery at the University of Pretoria. She worked for 3 years as a Junior Lecturer in the departments of Practice Management (General Dentistry) and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the university and part-time in private practice.
She commenced her training at Virginia Commonwealth University’s (VCU) Graduate Periodontics program in 2016. She completed and received her Specialty Certificate in Periodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry in 2019. She is board eligible for the American Board of Periodontics and Dental Implants. She is currently teaching as a part-time Adjunct Faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Department of Periodontics. She is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology, Southern Academy of Periodontology, Virginia Society of Periodontics, Virginia Dental Association, and Tidewater Dental Association.
As a Burmese in South Africa, and having spent her teenage life in Singapore, Dr. San has been exposed to a multitude of cultures. These experiences cultivated a heart for people from all backgrounds, and she places significant value in connecting with her patients.
Dr. San lives in Chesapeake with her husband. They share a common love for the outdoors, food, and their family and friends.
